2017 Cabernet Sauvignon

2017 Cabernet Sauvignon
97 Points Double Gold

2017 was a great year, but it dealt with its fair share of hardships. Half of our fruit was harvested before the fires, but we lost the other half due to it. Our total Cabernet Sauvignon production is 70% less of normal, making this release incredibly scarce. We are fortunate to even have a release, and maintain such high quality nevertheless, and we’re very grateful to curate our golden varietals into our fantastic wines that are showcased in this release.

With a total production of 225 cases of the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon, this elegant powerhouse (87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 1% Petit Verdot, 1% Malbec, 1% Cabernet Franc) all hails from highly-esteemed, volcanic Napa areas such as the Pritchard Hill area, Howell Mountain, Atlas Peak, and our very own Rockwell Ridge estate vineyard (35 feet below Howell Mountain). Barrel aged 23 months in 90% New French and Hungarian Oak, we’re honored that this wine recently won DOUBLE GOLD at Sunset International Wine Competition and received 97 points!

Ratings
"A blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, 1% Petit Verdot, 1% Malbec and 1% Cabernet Franc, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon comes from Howell Mountain, Pritchard Hill and Atlas Peak. It sports a deep garnet-purple color and offers up compelling scents of licorice, espresso, Black Forest cake and black olives over a crème de cassis and plum preserves core with a faint waft of wild sage. Full-bodied, the palate is laden with rich, decadent black berry preserves and savory notes, framed by ripe, firm tannins and bold freshness, finishing long and spicy. 225 cases were made." — Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, Robert Parker Wine Advocate, 95 Points
Awards
"The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon is another excellent release in this vintage from Hertelendy. The aromas are compelling as it is constantly evolving in the glass. Nuances of ripe dark cherries, cassis and boysenberries that come together with exotic spices, dusty rocks, hints of dark chocolate and forest herbs. On the palate this full-bodied Cabernet possesses wonderful concentration, which is supported by polished, yet firm tannins and notable underlying acidity that lifts the long finish. This is a beautifully made wine that is excellent now, but it also has all the characteristics to indicate a long evolution ahead." — International Wine Report, 95 Points
Vineyard Notes
"A blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, and the rest Petit Verdot, Malbec, and Cabernet Franc that’s all from mountain vineyards (Atlas Peak, Howell Mountain, and Pritchard Hill), the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon sports a deep, saturated purple color as well as a powerful nose of crème de cassis and assorted blue fruits as well as lots of graphite, crushed rock-like minerality, violets, and dried herbs and sage. This is a rich, full-bodied, concentrated 2017 that has the vintage’s more austere, Bordeaux-like structure, present yet ripe tannins, solid mid-palate depth, and a great finish. Give bottles 3-4 years, and it should evolve gracefully for 20+ years." — Jeb Dunnuck, 94+ Points
