2018 Audēre Red Blend

2018 Audēre Red Blend
95 Points Int'l Wine Report

By popular demand, this 2018 Audēre Red Blend (39% Merlot, 34% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Malbec, 10% Petit Verdot, 5% Cabernet Franc) best-seller is topping the charts with a total production of 329 cases.  23 months barrel aged in 90% New French and Hungarian Oak, in typical bold fashion, it comes out guns blazing with lots of extract, some serious tannin, and a full-bodied mouthfeel. This blend hails from ultra premium, volcanic Napa areas such as the Pritchard Hill area, Howell Mountain, Atlas Peak, and our very own Rockwell Ridge estate vineyard (35 feet below Howell Mountain). It is an exuberant, rich wine with red cherries, oodles of black fruits, and coffee notes. Very reminiscent of the inaugural 2013 Audēre, this is sure to please even the biggest Sideways-loving, Merlot-hater...and yes, the rumors are true….this label glows-in-the dark! Turn off the lights and see for yourself.

"The 2018 ‘Audere’ is another fantastic wine from Hertelendy in this vintage and similar to last years release, this is the most accessible wine from this outstanding lineup. It begins with seductive aromas of ripe blackberries, black cherries currants which are joined by exotic spices, violets, wet gravel, tobacco and hints of earthy nuances all developing in the glass. On the palate this is full-bodied and well-structured with beautifully polished tannins. It displays outstanding concentration and overall balance with a long seamless finish leaving behind flavors of black fruits, tobacco, violets and spices all leave a lasting impression. This is already fantastic, however it also has the structure to take on additional bottle age and evolve gracefully for years to come." -International Wine Report, 95 Points

"2018 Hertelendy ‘Audere’ Red Wine- The 2018 ‘Audere’ offers medium to full-bodied Turkish coffee and dark chocolate shaving flavors alongside a good degree of finesse. With more air, freshly tiled soil and stony notes combine with the rich dark fruits. Enjoy now and over the next decade. 39% Merlot, 34% Cabernet Sauvignon and smaller parts Malbec, Petit Verdot and a dash of Cabernet Franc. Drink 2023-2033" — Owen Bargreen, 93 Points
