2019 Audēre Red Blend

2019 Audēre Red Blend
96 Points Sunset International

Back by popular demand — and bolder than ever. The 2019 Audēre Red Blend is a showstopper, blending power, elegance, and a touch of flair. With only 349 cases produced, this best-selling favorite (43% Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, 3% Malbec, and 1% Petit Verdot) was barrel-aged 23 months in 90% new French and Hungarian oak, delivering serious structure, bold extraction, and a full-bodied mouthfeel. Sourced from our Rockwell Ridge estate at the top of Crystal Springs and premium Napa sites like Pritchard Hill, Atlas Peak, and Howell Mountain, it bursts with dark cherry liqueur, black currants, violets, and finishes with mocha crème brûlée decadence. Very reminiscent of the inaugural 2013 Audēre, this is sure to please even the biggest Sideways-loving, Merlot-hater. Oh—and yes, the rumors are true: the label glows in the dark.

Ratings
"The 2019 Audere Red Blend once again overdelivers. As this begins to unwind in the glass it releases aromas of red/dark currants and blueberries woven together with sweet spices, graphite, floral and hints of wild herbs all developing in the glass. On the palate this is full-bodied with outstanding overall structure backed by gorgeous polished tannins. It possesses excellent depth and concentration, with gorgeous layers of ripe red and dark fruits that continue to build through the long, supple finish. This is drinking excellent today and should go on to drink beautifully over the course of the next decade." — International Wine Report, 94 Points
Awards
"Lots of iron, spicy red and blue fruits, leather, and chocolaty notes emerge from the 2019 Red Blend Audere, another terrific wine in the lineup. Full-bodied, mouth-filling, and textured, it has notable tannins and a great finish. It's a great value and well worth seeking out. 353 cases. " — Jeb Dunnuck, 93 Points
Vineyard Notes
"Aromas of red fruit, fresh herbs and suede. Full-bodied with powdery, taught tannins. Juicy and well structured, the fruit coats the tannins well. Very good intensity and depth. Needs some time to soften. Best after 2025." — 93 Points, James Suckling
Production Notes
"The 2019 Hertelendy Audēre Red Blend is 43% Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, 3% Malbec and 1% Petit Verdot. This wine is deep ruby; along with the fruit there is a pronounced dark character to the bouquet including aromas of dried tobacco leaf and dried herbs including sage, a light woodsy spice, a gamey nuance, and the resulting smell of water poured on a hot slate rock sitting in the sun. This is a bouquet with character and plenty of aromatic layering. The palate is balanced and mirrors some of the darker expressions found in the aromatics; it offers flavors of plum, dark raspberry, blackberry, and red cherry. The acidity is bright but not tart. The tannins are light gravelly in texture and linger with a light dusty character accompanied by a tobacco spice on the finish." — Napa Wine Project
