“The 2020 Signature Mountain Blend is an incredibly expressive, full-throttle wine from Hertelendy. This powerful red bursts open with wonderful aromatics that showcase loads of ripe black cherries, blackberries and a hint of blueberry, which are joined by sweet exotic spices, sweet toasted oak, herbs, mocha, iron and hints of melted black licorice nuances. On the palate this is full-bodied and opulent, with dense layers of ripe dark and blue fruits that are underlined by a lovely touch of acidity providing a sense of freshness and balance. It shows incredible concentration, power and intensity all the way through the long supple finish. This is a massive, towering wine that is excellent today and will not require any cellaring. Production Notes
"The 2020 Hertelendy Signature Mountain Blend was crafted primarily from grapes from Sugarloaf Mountain and Coombsville, both sites in the southern part of Napa Valley. This wine is a blend of 80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc, 3% Malbec and 3% Petit Verdot. It is deep ruby and opaque with an amaranthine rim. This vintage is focused on its primary fruit characters with the secondary aromatics showing as more subtle. The bouquet sports aromas of dark cherry, boysenberry and blackberry with light chocolate. If you have any perceived notions about the quality of this particular vintage, this bottling will change your perception. The flavors are both red and dark fruited, dominated by red cherry, red plum and currant. Light tartness. Lingers with dry tobacco spice and a light tartness framed by gravelly textured tannins.
