Tasting Notes
"Another sultry and delightful vintage of this wine, the 2022 Hertelendy ‘Napa Valley’ Cabernet Franc is an amazing hot-vintage wine by proprietor Ralph Hertelendy. The wine combines 75% Cabernet Franc with the remainder Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Anise, pencil lead and red florals all combine on the nose with suggestions of fresh sage and creme de cassis. The palate is plush and refined with serious weight and glorious length. Smooth throughout the drinking experience, with well-defined tannins and a gracious core of black and blue fruits, enjoy this beautiful wine now and over the next fifteen to twenty years. Drink 2025-2040." — Owen Bargreen, 96 Points
Ratings
“The jury is still out on the overall quality and age-ability of Napa’s 2022 reds in general, largely because of the massive heat dome at the beginning of harvest, when areas including Napa and Sonoma counties experienced some of the hottest and driest days in the history of vine growing. But we uncovered plenty of evidence that good winemakers who made sharp harvest decisions and were in some cases willing to select out a large portion of the crop to increase the quality of the rest produced some excellent bottles. Arguing that case well are…Hertelendy…and several others. In many 2022s, we noted an abundance of ripe, juicy, red and black fruit character, often with a seemingly lighter, tangier texture than in a typical Napa vintage. This layered and richly textured wine is generous in dark fruit and oak spice flavors, but also bolstered by a rich foundation of fine-grained tannins that lend a big mouthfeel. Ultra-ripe and indulgent notes of blueberry syrup meld with milk chocolate, dried cranberries and vanilla bean on the palate. Full-bodied. Drink or hold.” — James Suckling

"This 2022 Cabernet Franc from Hertelendy opens with a captivating nose of ripe blackberries and dark cherries weaving through layers of violets, spices and sweet oak nuances. On the palate, it’s full-bodied with notable depth and a lovely touch of fresh acidity, allowing the fruit flavors to shine through while subtle peppery and spice notes add complexity. The finish is nicely polished and long, with hints of violet and spice that carry through to the end." — International Wine Report
