Tasting Notes
"A stunning new edition of this wine, the 2022 Hertelendy ‘Napa Valley’ Cabernet Sauvignon is a bit less initially reticent than the ’21 edition. Stored for 23 months in 90% New French and Hungarian Oak this is already beautifully evolved stuff, offering a great melange of black and blue fruits on the palate, showing chocolate pie, creme de violette and loamy soils. Full-bodied and opulent in terms of weight and overall texture, with bright tension that beams through the core, enjoy this not for the weary beauty over the next fifteen years to come. Drink 2025-2041." — Owen Bargreen, 96 Points

"The 2022 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon from Hertelendy is excellent, as it opens with an aromatic blend of ripe blackberries and black cherries, layered with complex hints of spice, crushed violets, crushed stones, fresh sage, and subtle accents of toasted oak. The palate is full-bodied and rich, with a lovely touch of underlying acidity provide a sense of freshness. It displays notable concentration and firm, polished tannins. Despite its power, it maintains a vibrant freshness that frames the long, lingering finish. With its wonderful balance of strength and elegance, this wine is already impressive but promises to evolve beautifully over the next decade or more." — International Wine Report, 95 Points

“The jury is still out on the overall quality and age-ability of Napa’s 2022 reds in general, largely because of the massive heat dome at the beginning of harvest, when areas including Napa and Sonoma counties experienced some of the hottest and driest days in the history of vine growing. But we uncovered plenty of evidence that good winemakers who made sharp harvest decisions and were in some cases willing to select out a large portion of the crop to increase the quality of the rest produced some excellent bottles. Arguing that case well are…Hertelendy…and several others. In many 2022s, we noted an abundance of ripe, juicy, red and black fruit character, often with a seemingly lighter, tangier texture than in a typical Napa vintage. A dark, smoky, spicy wine with plenty of black fruit flavors to balance the toasted oak influence and potent, fine-grained tannins. Dried blueberry, grilled plum, black pepper, graphite and espresso flavors on a firm structure with a lingering finish. A chewy mouthfeel softens in the finish, with lingering black fruit…” — James Suckling
